Flying Home
The weekend was spent traveling. It was hard not to feel sad about leaving Japan. The last month was incredibly fun, and full of excitement. After an early morning start, we had a long ride into Narita Airport. The customs check and checking in were easy though, and fortunately there were some remnants of the Japan we would soon be leaving before the gates.
The last meal: Udon. Sadly it would be the last of the incredible food we had in Japan.
Soon we were on the plain, and it was incresingly clear that this would be the last I would see of Japan for a while. I think we all intended to be back some day, though.
The flight back was really smooth until we hit Chicago. We ended up in Ohare for a total of seven hours. Five hours of waiting to find out that our plain had been cancelled, and another two trying to figure out what to do after. Inevtitably we re-booked our tickets for Saturday, and got vouchers for our two nights in the hotel. We actually had really nice rooms, too. Giant suites, which were the saving grace of the ordeal.
We all spent the next day in downtown Chicago. Suzuki-sensei, Peter, Panza, Sam and I started off with classic deep-dish pizza for lunch, which was filling to say the least. Afterward, Suzuki-sensei went off to shop, while the rest of us met up with one of Peter's friends, who showed us around the city a bit. It wasn't a very long day, but it was more fun than I thought we would be having, after the night before.
We weren't out of the woods yet, though. That night in the hotel, the fire alarm went off at 1:00 am, and the entire building was evacuated for about an hour. It turned out to be nothing serious, but it fit right in line with everything else that had happened.
Though it was sad to leave Japan to begin with, it was nice to get out of Chicago, though slightly more mundane days lay ahead of me.
Being back is hard. I find myself longing to be in Japan, or walk down the street to get melon pan at the convinient store and be greated by, "Irashaimase!"
Even in English, I find it hard to express just how incredible an experience this trip was. It was more than worth everything.

Last Day. ; ;
今日は最後の日。明日、飛行機でアメリカに帰ります。
今朝に京都を離れました。時間のほとんどは新幹線で過ごしました。駅でおべんとう買って、新幹線で食べました。全部わ冷たいでした。ちょっとへんでした。
一時ごろ、東京に着きました。お茶の水ホテルに帰って、駅に行って、サムさんとピーターさんとパンちゃんと一緒にジブリの博物館に行きました。ジブリの博物館はすごく面白かったです。簡素だと思いますけど、とてもにぎやかでした。
おみやげショープでたくさん買いました。

後で、駅に帰って、鈴木先生に会って、新宿に行きました。駅に買い物をして、待っていました。７時にバイキングを食べに行ききました。食事の間に私がゆりさんのおばさんとちょっと話しました。みんなたくさん話しました。とてもおいしくて楽しかったです。
これが全部です。私のちょう楽しかった日本の旅行が終わります。悲しけど、全部はとても楽しかったです。

Osaka
今日は大阪に行きました。
１０時半ごろ駅に行きました。時間がみ少しかかりました。大阪は面白くて、ほとんどアメリカ都市のようなところです。初めは道頓堀という道と電気街が好きになりました。どうとんぶりでお好み焼きのレストランに食べに行きました。ついにレストランでやきそばを食べました。ちょうおいしかったです。うれしかったです。
ぜんぜん分かりません。
後でパンちゃんがお金をおろしたかったのでたくさん銀行をさがしに行きました。
アメリカ町も行きました。でも、あまりアメリカのようじゃありませんでした。。。。そこで、私たちがとても熱いたこやきを食べました。
最後にデパートに行きました。とても大きかったですが、何も買いませんでした。
大阪は楽しかったです。
京都に帰ったら、しゃぶしゃぶのレストランに行きました。しゃぶしゃぶが大好き。とてもおいしかったです。
おなかがいっぱい、ホテルに帰りました。楽しい日でした。
もっとメロンパン。

Kyoto, Day One
今日は観光の日です。
今朝、ロビーでサムさんとゆりさんとパンちゃんがアマンダさんに初めに会いました。京都にバスでどこでも行きます。
一番目の停留所が金閣寺。金閣寺はすごくきれいです。
次は龍安寺。龍安寺は面白いです。寺の中でせきていがありました。From any angle, only 14 of the 15 rocks are supposed to be visible, but from one spot I was able to see all 15, for some reason。外で少し歩きました。龍安寺が好きです。いいかんじです。
龍安寺に行った後で、中国料理のレストランに行きました。やきそばをちゅうもんしましたが、ローメインでした。ざんねんでした。でも、おいしかったです。
さいごは清水寺。途中でたくさん店がありました。ネックレスを買いました。上に寺があります。私たちがたくさん写真をとりました。
二人のへんな男性です。
下に来たら、もっと買い物をしました。高いせんすを買いました。
ホテルに帰ったら、パンちゃんとサムさんとホテルの銭湯に行って、後でピーターさんとデビンさんが下に来ました。
晩ごはんで、鈴木先生とアマンダさんとサムさんとパンちゃんと私一緒にとても小さくて伝統的な京都のレストランに行きました。古風でしたけど、料理あまり好きじゃありませんでした。
休み前で、サムさんとピーターさんとパンちゃんと一緒にも一度アーケードに行きました。私たちはボーリングに行きたかったですが、遠かったです。
今日はとてもいそがしかったですけど、良かったです。
メロンパンを当てたばかりでした！

Bye bye, Aichi
今日は遅い始まりました。
ロビーでみんなと鈴木先生の双子の弟に会いました。今日、鈴木先生の弟はパチンコを教えてくれましたが、あまり分かりませんでした。チャンスボタンも分かりませんでしたが、パチンコが大好きになりました。パチンコで１０００円だけ使いました。後で、１２時ごろまでアーケードに行きました。パチンコの近くにあります。
弘さんが crane ゲームが上手ですけど、今日何も当てませんでした。
昼ごはん前、映画館も行きました。中で新しいジブリの映画のよこくへんを見て、私が二つUFOを買いました。
昼ごはんはかいてんずしを食べました。かいてんずしはすごく面白いです。すしがクルクル来て、すしをとります。かいてんずしは面白くておいしです。とても楽しかったです。

これで、愛知県でのスケジュールが終わりました。駅に行って、鈴木先生のかぞくに”さよなら”を言いました。悲しかったです。
新幹線で京都に行きました。京都に着いたら、ホテルに行きました。駅から遠いです。
今晩みんあ京都を歩きました。ピグアンドウィスルへ食べに行きました。
早く寝たい。

Another day in Aichi
今朝に鈴木先生のかぞくに初めて会いました。みんなはとてもおもしろかったです。こどもたちがすごく可愛いです。
その後で、車で豊田の博物館に行きました。行く途中コンビニに止まって、CCレモンを飲んで、しゅうまいを食べました。おいしかったです。
TOYOTA博物館はなかなか大きかったです。たくさんちょう古い車がありました。私の一番好きな車は：
GTO!
この車が一番大好き。
TOYOTA博物館は面白かったけど、すぐに終わりました。
次はめいじむら。めいじむらは大巨大〜！三時半間で半分だけ歩けましたが、とてもきれいでした。
たくさんいろいろな建物もありました。例えば郵便局や駅や銀行や刑務所がありました。めいじむらに出る途中、鈴木先生のめいがニンテンドーDSを当てました。良かった。
日がしずみました、やきにくが食べに行きました。とても楽しくておいしかった。でもぶたのちょうがあまりおいしくなかったです。
日本の道はとてもせまいです。
今晩、早くホテルに帰りましたけど、ブログはまだ終わっていません。

Aichi is Amazing
今日もとてもいそぎしかった。
早くに起きて、ふくを着て、ロビーに行きました。今日はにわの小学校に行って、紹介をしました。その前で、鈴木先生はおみやげを分けていた間に私たちがきれいな公園をたんけんしました。でも、桜がない。ざんねんです。
学校に着くったら、喜んで歓迎してくださいました。そこでうれしかったです。
First thing, we had a chance to sit down and chat with the principle. It was then that we found out that the school focused on music education, sadly enrollment was sharply dropping off. There were 21 students in the sixth grade however, there were fewer than ten students in every other year. Then we were shuffled off with the students upstairs for the greeting ceremony. They sang for us and told us tidbits about themselves and their school, and asked us questions after we introduced ourselves and told them about our school.
After the welcoming, we were ushered to our classrooms where we gave our presentations. The class I was assigned to only had four students. My presentation bored them to death. Luckily I had the sanity of mind to throw it out the window and show them pictures of Vermont, Florida and other various things, which they seemed to enjoy much more. Now it was time for lunch, which was surprisingly good. Miso, salad and some kind of fried meat, rice, milk and something called "orenjizerii." (Orange Jelly?)
After lunch, we played. Those kids really loved to play. I'm not too sure what we were playing, but it was probably tag, except we were always "it." Eventually I was given the job of a horse: running kids down the halls and back.
In Japanese schools, the children always clean the school. We were given a few options while they were doing this, and I decided I needed to rest. It wasn't too long before I went back to the class that I had been assigned to for the presentation. They had me sit while they showed me all of their talents. Each one of them was very talented. I had a really hard time with the trivia game portion, but it was all in good fun. They also gave me a box full of origami they had folded, as well as a giant paper helmet, which actually fit me.
Sadly, this was the end of our time at the school, and as the kids were leaving, we had another chance to sit down with the principle and talk about our presentations and such. The principle also shared his gratitude again, and told us how much it meant to him to see the children smiling and laughing the way they had been today.
It was hard to leave, but after, we went driving around Aichi. We stopped at a very old inn on the Toukaidou road, as well as a foot onsen, and a mini-mall.
This was more to waste time than anything though. We began our travel back to stop at an English class that Suzuki-sensei teaches at during the summer. We gave short presentations again, as well as hearing presentations from the members of the Japanese class. Which was fun, but the real fun came after. The class took us to a cafe nearby with platter style meals. We all ate and talked. The time rolled by quite quickly, until the food was gone.
パーティでかわいさんと話しました。かわいさんはクラスのメンバーはよくその喫茶店に食べると言いました。一年に三、四回喫茶店に行きます。私は「所有者がよく知ってるかな？』と聞きました。かわいさんは『ぜんぜん知りません。。。』と言いました。びっくり。面白かったです。
It was time to head back to the hotel.

End of Tokyo, Act I
今日は東京でさいごの日。
温泉と東京タワーも行けませんでした。
今日の朝はつきじしじょう行きました。つきじしじょうは大きい魚いちばです。すごく日本らしいです。すしまるでお昼ごはんを食べました。私はすしまるセットをちゅうもんしました。とてもおいしかったです。後で魚いちばを歩きいました。
そして、あさくさに行きました。あさくさの大道りの門にちょう大きいちょうちんがあって、たくさん小さいちょうちんもありました。あさくさで百均に行きました。たくさん面白い物がありましたけど、何も買いませんでした。あさくさの大道りで小さいまねきねこの porcelain セットを買いました。
大道りのつきあたりに大きい寺がありました。中でサムさんとパンちゃんと私はお金をなげて、いのりました。もちろんビデオと写真も撮りました。
ホテルの方まで行くとちゅう、ラーメンのみせで食事をしました。しょうゆラーメンはすごくおいしかったです。
東京で時間がなかったので、東京駅に行きました。今晩、東京駅はすごく込んでいました。新幹線で愛知県にいきました。
豊橋に着きましたけど、豊川まで、電車に乗りました。この夜、サンホテルに過ごしました。午前零時にコンビニで小さい旅行をしました。

Day One
第一日目。東京に着いた後で、ホテルに一泊過ごしました。部屋はなかなか小さっかたですけど、いごこちがよかったです。朝早くに起きたり、ロビーでみんなに会ったりしました。
朝、CCレモンがおいしかったです：
そして、私たちは駅の方まで行きました。一番始めにいった場所は東京駅です。駅で昼ごはんを食べたり、JR Rail Passを買ったりしました。JRオフィスで怒った大阪人が見ました。
東京駅で親子丼ぶり：
次は渋谷です。渋谷で多くの人が見えました。渋谷駅の出口で、トラビスさんの友達に会って、別々に行きました。
鈴木先生、さわこさん、ピーターさん、サムさん、パンザさん、私と一緒にアーケードに行きました。たいこドラムマスターとギルティギアであそびました。日本語でたいこドラムマスターはむずかしいです。かんたんのレベルだけ選べられました。craneゲームでも６００円をむだにつかいました。ちょっと悲しかったけどアーケードはとても楽しかったです。外で大きい三角コーンを見ました。おかしい〜。
次は原宿です。そこで少し買い物をして、いろいろな店を見物しました。私は原宿でお水だけ買いました。とちゅう、私たちは二人の少女と写真を撮りました。
はらじゅくに行った後で、新宿駅に行きました。近くを歩いていました。駅の中で沖縄のお祭りが見つかりました。ゴーヤや snake whisky や weird donut を見ました。面白かったです。
最後の場所は秋葉原です：
アキハバラはすごく面白かったです。電気が多いです。秋葉原でちがうアーケードに行って、喫茶店ですわって、少しだけホビーの店を見物しました。秋葉原が終わったら、お茶の水に帰って、沖縄のレストランに行きました。沖縄の料理はちょっとへんですけど、おいしいです。
とてもいそがし日でしたけどとても楽しかったです。

Off the Plane
JAL flight 003: biggest plane I've ever been on. Thirteen hour flight from Ohare to Narita: uncomfortable. No sleep for 26 hours. My legs didn't want to move. Long subway ride to Tokyo station, and a quick jump to Ochanomizu station to spend our first night in Japan, but not before a shower and late night, Japanese TV.
Smallest tube of toothpaste ever.
